In silhouettes, I capture transitional moments in my creative process. I make these works rapidly with 50-75 pounds of solid clay. I push the clay around, digging through it until a figure emerges. I come back two days later, hollow it out, and make it mountable. After firing, I use color to enhance the expression, and allow the natural clay to bring out details in the surface. These are some of my favorite pieces to look at, as I do not intimately know all the details. When visiting one of these pieces, I can always find something new, as if viewing it for the first time.
